    Summer camp educates, supports and assures children that life can be creative and successful after the diagnosis of diabetes. In a fun outdoor setting, children learn how sports, illness, carbohydrate intake and stress affects them. Family camp programs are offered for children as young as three years of age.

    Dr. Rachael Mullin grew up with type 1 diabetes, went to camp, worked at camp, went to medical school, and is now an endocrinology fellow at OHSU. All of this experience has given her a truly unique perspective on life with type 1 diabetes. She connects with campers, parents and patients with joy and optimism.
    We all know that our kids struggle with diabetes, either with the diagnosis itself or with the management. How can we let them know that we do understand their pain and their challenges? And if we do that, how can we also guide them towards the diabetes behaviors that we know they need to engage in? In this session, based on JoAnne's free webinar, you will learn a powerful tool to help you parent through some of these tricky moments. We’ll use a Validation tool to help your child feel that you really get their experience. Learn how to really hear what your kid is saying to you and reflect that back to them so they feel heard. Research shows that skillful validation is a way to help regulate emotions, something we deeply want for our T1D kids.
    They cover questions about birthday parties, their first time giving insulin, sleepovers, first jobs, driving and more!
    Stephanie Fuchs (she/her) is a recently graduated PhD student from the Minglin Ma lab at Cornell University. Her dissertation research focused on bioengineering glucose-sensitive devices for electronics-free insulin delivery. Stephanie shares advances in the field of "smart" insulin-delivery devices and discusses the remaining challenges to bringing these novel therapies to the clinic.
